Preview - Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival

Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival comes to a close this weekend after celebrating 30 years of bringing smooth grooves to the ears of the capital.

Since 1979, when jazz musician Mike Hart brought the music to ten pubs around the city as a trail supported by Dryburgh’s Brewery, the festival has marked the opening of the celebratory August season in real style.

Many of the best known legends of the genre have made an appearance from Stephan Grappelli to Count Basie and even former President Jimmy Carter was once in the audience to see Dick Hymam.

Now if you’re quick you might catch up and coming fusion star Lee Ritenour at The Hub from 17:30 tonight (tickets £22.50), but not to worry if not as there is still plenty more ahead. Highlights tomorrow include BK3, an exciting trio featuring Bruce Katz at the Grassmarket at half 8 (tickets £15) and awesome blues rocker Otis Grand with The Big Blues Band at The Jamhouse at the same time.

Check out the website for the full programme and to book tickets and whatnot. Go on, cheer yourself up from the currently dismal weather with some of the aural delights on offer. We know you want to.
