Edinburgh is lesbian friendly (but not as friendly as Glasgow)

What’s this map all about, then? Weather? Wealth? The hardest drinkers in the country? Nope. It’s a map of lesbians. Why? You’ve got us there.

The map was produced by Diva magazine to celebrate its 150th issue, using statistical data acquired anonymously from a range of sources including magazine sales, visitors to leading lesbian websites and subscription-based services.

The research reveals that by postcode, Edinburgh is almost as popular as Brighton, while Glasgow is second in the country only to London.

So the point of producing a map charting the whereabouts of 2.4 million lesbians is what, exactly?

Well, it shows some stark differences to the population groupings of gay male men, for example, who tend to be only drawn to major cities, rather than be spread more evenly across the country.

Other than that, we’re not quite sure of the point other than a sensationalist headline, but it’s nice to know that Edinburgh is the cosmopolitan city we know it to be.
